What Have I Learned?
- Regular readers (subscribers) are looking for completely different things than searchers via Google. Most search engine traffic for the television and movie reviews which is why I persist in doing them. They’re less time sensitive and “breaking news” oriented and get very few comments.
- Networking is essentially promotion, and could be as simple as logging into MyBlogLog and visiting all the blogs you read. I really fell off doing this during the middle of the year and this likely caused my subscribers to plateau. I also surrendered crafting content that is particular to “digg bait”. I’m not sure if I’m interested in doing either in the near future, but I could do better at linking to lesser known blogs and participating in social networking websites.
- I think I’ve hit a level of posting that is comfortable for me and doesn’t set myself up for burnout. For me, that’s once a day with a few days skipped every once in a while.
- I find it’s quite easy to get sidetracked as the initial blogging thrill has certainly worn off. For example, my third contest totally fell apart because I got caught up in other projects. I hope to revive contests in 2008 because I really want to make good on my promise to return ad revenue to the readers.
Anyhow thanks for continuing to read the blog. If you’re a long time reader, I hope you’ll continue reading in the new year. Thanks for the support.
