WordPress 2.3 Has Tags
September 23rd, 2007
WordPress 2.3 is slated for release this coming Monday, Sept. 24. It has several new features but one that deserves particular note are tags – words that help add some meaning to the subjects of your posts.
For quite a while I’ve been using a plug in that creates Technorati tags and have been considering ditching them as I don’t get much traffic from Technorati and I’m on a quest to declutter this blog. Now with WordPress 2.3 supporting tags internally I’m thinking I’ll just move over to that system.
Here’s a quick rundown of how to add tags and tag clouds to a WordPress theme in WordPress 2.3. Looks pretty easy.
Anyhow, if you’re thinking about upgrading as I am, here are some further resources to chew on:
- Lorelle’s WordPress 2.3 Excitement and Plugins at the Blog Herald
- Technosailor: Ten Things You Need To Know About WordPress 2.3
- WordPress 2.3 Plug-in Compatibility List
I’m 100% in agreement with you. That’s exactly my plan.
One thing that’s amusing is with this blog “clean up” I think things are loading faster.

Tags and categories … the endless pain to be sure. I haven’t switched up to the new version yet but am looking forward to it. My advice to any newer bloggers who may read this comment: figure out categories and tags you might want to use early on to avoid crazy clutter!
