Book Notes: Biggest Secrets
September 11th, 2007
This is the last title in William Poundstone’s secret spoiling series. It’s now out of print. I return to these books every once in a while to re-read this fun stuff. Here’s a short list of what bizarre, trivial information is in this one:
- Recipe for Mrs. Fields Cookies: Pretty simple, really.
- Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes: The whole concept of breakfast cereal had to be invented, too.
- Mystery Meat: Spam, head cheese, potted meat product, and why I’ll never eat chorizo again.
- The Beale Cipher: One of those things that you can obsess over for the rest of your life.
- The Equator-Crossing Ritual: What’s up with all these ridiculous secret hazing-style rites?
- The Tootsie Roll Pop Indian: Some people have too much time on their hands.
- Is Thomas Pynchon Really Another Famous Writer?
