General Webomatica Update
September 7th, 2007
Every few weeks, I do a quick assessment of the general direction this blog is headed. I’m quite satisfied with its current progress and everything above and beyond recently has been icing on the cake. However, there are still some areas for improvement.
The good:
- August was decent in terms of traffic - 33K uniques. The pace of increase has slowed, but is still trending up. Back in February was the last time I hit the front page of Digg (I think I had 40K unique visitors that month). I hope to exceed that amount of traffic without any Digg activity by year’s end - we’ll see.
- Both Google AdSense and writing for the Blog Herald have been really cool experiences. I’m considering adding TextLink Ads and another writing project (more about that later).
- The “long tail” has been a saving grace. I’ve written many movie, music, and television reviews that generate traffic long after I’ve forgotten about them. Technology posts are fun to write, but ultimately rather time sensitive.
- The So Bad It’s Good Movie contest was loads of fun, and I’m thinking about running a third contest soon. I just have to come up with a good concept and prize (any fun ideas?).
The bad:
- My Technorati rank has decreased. I guess I’m not writing as much link-worthy content.
- I haven’t been writing as many music reviews as of late. I think I need another obsessive “every song by so-and-so” list (any suggestions for an artist?)
- I hit a production wall in regards to the bottle cap site. I had a whole bunch of stuff planned which I just haven’t found the time to get to.
- I should write more funny posts.
So that’s about it. I keep finding reasons to persevere and as I’ve mentioned before, comments and reading other blogs are my main inspiration these days.
