My 1,000th Post

August 18th, 2007

Woohoo. Hard to believe, but this is post number 1,000.

I think this blog is now about a year and a half old and it’s been an entertaining ride.

Highlights: Three front page diggs, links from Valleywag / Techmeme / various others, iPhone correspondent in the field, writing for the Blog Herald, contests, funny / unique responses to posts.

Lowlights: Disparaging comments, scads of spam, site going down, fatigue.

Truth be told, I have a fair amount of bad or terrible posts – especially during the early days or the period of a few months where I was trying to post three times a day with mixed results.

Anyhow, after a quick review here are five posts I’m most proud of for various reasons.

Thanks to all the readers – at this point you’re the #1 reason why I’m forging ahead to post #2,000. A third contest is in the works after #2 is complete; shortly, to “give back”!

  • Let me be the first to congratulate you on a real accomplishment. It ain't easy pumping this stuff out and you do it with style and reliable consistency. I especially like that your blog isn't too niche but represents a cross-section of your interests that let the reader get to know that there is a real person behind the effort.

    I actually dug it when you posted 3x a day. I started getting my tech news from you when you were doing that (does that frighten you?). But I can see how that would be tiring.

  • Thanks for all the fun comments. Dave - yeah doing tons of tech posts is pretty great from the reader point of view - but for a working stiff like me, fitting in after the day job was pretty challenging.

    Sang I think we're sticking around here.

    Lastly I'm up in Portland after a wedding - might be coming home with a small impulse Mac related buy. No sales tax...

  • Congratulations! Some feat, given that I was feeling proud at having made (only) my 100th post recently. :-)
  • Congrats, 1,000 is a huge accomplishment! I'm closing in on 200 for my "new" incarnation at Online Media Cultist and feel I've learned a ton in that span, so I can only imagine the wisdom that a grand tacks on.
  • Grats on the 1000th post, that's unbelievable. I'm lucky if I get two posts in a week (though I'm trying harder).

    Spam hits everyone. I approximately 20-30 spam comments per post (and I've only been up for about a month).
