MyBlogLog Adds Tags: Thumbs Up

May 26th, 2007

I spent some time playing around with addition of tags to MyBlogLog. The basic idea is you can now label any website or user in MyBlogLog with tags of your own making.

What’s kinda cool is this has been thought through pretty well. Clicking on a tag produces a list of all the sites that have been tagged as such, including the users that did the tagging.

I did notice that the tags aren’t included in the MyBlogLog search – results still seem based on site descriptions and the user names. Hopefully search integration is coming.

So it seems cool stuff is still happening with MyBlogLog. I’m curious about the future inclusion in other Yahoo! properties. It seems to me that one cool thing would be treating Yahoo! users as MyBlogLog users. That way, someone logged into Yahoo! would display their avatar on your site. Maybe eventually, all the Yahoo! properties converting to Yahoo! IDs (flickr) could have MyBlogLog widgets on those sites.

I’m sure this is all being worked on and it’s neat to see continued progress with MyBlogLog after their acquisition by Yahoo!.

  • If they play their cards right and add a couple more things - as you point out - the right way Technorati could have a problem. I worte about this thought the other day just after finding out about the MBL tags

  • Hmm. Well based on what I use Technorati for it seems that MyBlogLog would need to beef up their search features to also include looking at the feeds the content of the blog post (which shouldn't bee too hard).

It also seems that Technorati is looking to be purchased, and your comment right now suggests that perhaps Yahoo! won't be that interested as they already have MyBlogLog?

    Ah armchair speculation.
  • I think they are headed in the right direction with it. My favorite part is the readers (not the blog owner) create the tags.
  • Hi Chris, true, and hopefully that will add an element of user-created credibility, as over time the blogs with the most keywords will hopefully be organized correctly, leading to a most popular in any category.
