Gilmore Girls: Lorelai, Lorelai

Season 7, Episode 20

Gilmore Girls: Lorelai, Lorelai
Gilmore Girls: She sings!

Gilmore GirlsThings are coming to a head on Gilmore Girls, as the final bend is rounded towards the season (and series) finale.

This episode opened with Rory in the midst of an anxiety dream where she’s kicked out of high school and finds Paris and Doyle living in Lorelai’s house (did you catch the photograph of Paris with Bono on the fridge?). Later, at dinner with Emily and Richard, Rory sheepishly confesses that she didn’t get the New York Times internship. She puts on a brave face but Lorelai knows her disappointment. Rory later crumbles, hiding in her bed with sheets pulled over her head. It’s done with a sense of humor, but she really has no clue what she’ll do after graduation, and the stress of a final, impending deadline is palpable.

Meanwhile, Luke is planning a summer boat trip with April, but she cancels. All arrows point towards him inviting Lorelai on the trip instead. A real treat was Lorelai at karaoke night, singing I Will Always Love You as Luke walks in. I enjoyed hearing Lauren Graham’s cute singing voice.

But at episode’s end came the bombshell - Logan drops by Lorelai’s to ask her permission to propose to Rory and move with him to Silicon Valley, where he’s just gotten a job with some Palo Alto startup. Why didn’t Rory apply to Stanford?

So I enjoyed this episode, probably more so because it’s almost The End. I must reiterate my desire to see neither Gilmore getting hitched during the season finale. I hope Rory decides to something independent, like backpack across Europe. Maybe Christopher will offer to pay for it. Maybe Lorelai will agree to have Luke give her a ride on his boat. That’s it. I just can’t handle a wedding of any sort.

Only two more Gilmore Girls episode recaps to go!

Disclosure: The above reference to “Paris” could be Paris the city, Paris Gellar from Gilmore Girls, ParisLemon the blogger, or Paris Hilton. I have no financial relationship with any of them.
