Meme: Which Magazines Do You Read?
I’ve been tagged by another blog meme by ParisLemon, asking the question, what magazines do you read? I’ve actually ranted a bit about how I’m reading less and less print media, and magazines are no exception.
These days, we subscribe to:
- Money
- Newsweek
- Reader’s Digest
Uh, that’s it. Yeah, that’s pretty sad, but what’s sadder still is both Newsweek and Reader’s Digest were gift subscriptions. Otherwise I don’t really enjoy those magazines that much - I’d be fine about losing them, too. They both seem to be under the banner of “bathroom reading” only because I fear being electrocuted using the MacBook in the john. This leaves us with only Money (not a bad thing to be left with, indeed).
Why so few? I have my reasons.
But for the sake of this post, here are the magazines I’ve subscribed to over the past few years:
- Time
- MacAddict
- Wired
- The Economist
- MacWorld
- The Industry Standard
- Premiere
I’ll still pick up any of the above from the newsstand, including BusinessWeek, Fortune, and ReadyMade.
Out of all these titles, the only ones I’d seriously consider subscribing to are ReadyMade and The Economist. I really like ReadyMade’s do-it-yourself ethic. The Economist is simply awesome but rather cost-prohibitive.
So that’s my rather wimpy magazine subscription list. Meanwhile, I have nearly a hundred RSS feeds in Google Reader, some to major newspapers and news websites. Get your stuff on-line and save a tree!

My god! You got tapped for, like, every meme out there.
You are a meme tappee.
Heh, there’s been a string of meme taps for sure. I guess I should start a new category called “meme” now that I think about it.
It may actually be a secret Cylon conspiracy to keep me from writing about the Gilmore Girls.
That actually seems like a lot of mags to me. I rarely read any but got back into it (2 subscriptions). Great blog too :0)
Hi Tanya, well, I guess it’s all relative. I suppose I’m thinking about how I grew up where my parents subscribed to The Smithsonian, National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, etc. Not to say we read them cover to cover, though…
I’m an Economist and a Wired subscriber. The Economist is well worth it because you get access to certain articles and updates only available online. You should check out the Progressive Magazine sometime, which is Old Fighting Bob LaFollette’s former magazine (ask Tanja), they should have it in stock at Borders or Barnes & Noble in the current events section. If you like it I think I can get you a discounted gift subscription. Then again they have a well updated website which might defeat the purpose of getting it in print. I’d write/post more but I just got through my first exam and have to get get cracking on reviewing for the next one……Happy May Day.
