Meme: What’s Your Web 2.0?
Engtech, the cat-loving carne asada super burrito of blogs, has started a new meme / survey, which hopes to identify usage patterns of Web 2.0. The theory is that although there are hundreds of cool Web 2.0 sites out there, most folks - even the technically savvy - only have enough time to incorporate a handful on a regular basis. I tend to agree with that sentiment.

Although it may seem I’m a techno-obsessive, I actually have some odd Luddite tendencies (see Luddite, HDTV Confusion). Still, I’ve checked out several Web 2.0 sites for my Interesting series. Whether or not any of those sites have crossed the line into regular usage is another subject altogether.
So at Engtech’s suggestion, here’s the Web 2.0 technology I’m using these days, broken down by daily, weekly, and monthly use.
Daily Use
- This blog: WordPress technology.
- Google - Reader, Gmail, Analytics.
- Twitter - kind of a novelty, but it’s addictive.
- News Aggregators: TechMeme, Megite.
Weekly Use
- MyBlogLog - closer to daily, but I skip a few days here and there.
- Technorati - checking out this blog’s ranking, and sometimes searching for new blogs to read / link to.
- Google Blog Search - searching for blogs to link to.
- Digg - mostly just looking for entertaining links - much less commenting.
- Wikipedia
- Rotten Tomatoes
- IMDB
- Netflix
- Started playing with NewsVine; this may not stick.
- YouTube - checking out silly videos, usually sent to me as a link.
- Yahoo! - primarily their Finance section.
Monthly Use
- Fanpop - admittedly this is a bit biased, because I know one of the founders.
- Shoutwire
- Flickr
- Joost - I keep firing it up to see if there’s any new, juicy content. It’s getting better.
- Feedburner - making sure the feed didn’t die.
So uh… now that I look at this list, it’s rather utilitarian, and obviously biased towards promotion of this blog. I have accounts at several Web 2.0 sites (SecondLife, Flixter, Catster, HubPages, Yahoo! Pipes, LibraryThing, MySpace) that I don’t use regularly - although I have the best of intentions to - it just never seems to happen. Conclude what you will, but I think my answers are evidence of the “catch and release” problem.
Anyhow, I’m looking foward to more folks’ answers to this survey. I think anybody who has an opinion about this subject chime in, but here are a couple of folks to keep the Blog Meme moving:
