Meme: Blogs That Make Me Think
A few days ago, Eric Berlin over at Online Media Cultist tapped Webomatica as a blog that made him think - essentially part of this meme that involves “thinking bloggers” (which I’m pretty sure started at The Thinking Blog, which I check out from time to time)
I’ll take this as an opportunity to highlight the bloggers that are working a cut above and creating content that makes me go “Hmmm” rather than just aping the same old stuff. So here are my five picks. Apologies if you were already tapped once before - if so just consider this another feather in your cap!

- Engtech: Mr. Engtech is one of those blogs that whenever I visit, I’m likely to encounter a post that’s twice as long and packed with good stuff than if another blogger had a go at the same topic. His posts usually make me think, man, I should bookmark this. It’s a carne asada super burrito of blogs. (Fave posts: 45 Books I Like More Than A Little, How To Create LOLCats…) (Entech RSS Feed)
- WinExtra: Steven Hodson just got onto the scene recently, but is already a favorite of mine. He sometimes takes a contrarian position and pokes holes in the usual Techmeme cheer-leading that goes on, which I think is important to take in. Second, he’s the developer behind TwitBox, a Twitter client. (Fave posts: Are We Running Out Of Real Ideas And Thoughts?, Burning Bridges And The Calacanis Ego) (WinExtra RSS Feed)
- Elaine Vigneault: Since subscribing a few weeks ago, I’ve been greeted with a wide variety of posts and subjects, definitely making me think. The Magic Pill could be at the very least a reality television show, and at best, a way to instill humility in those born with a silver spoon in their mouth. (Fave posts: American Idle, The Magic Pill) (Elaine Vigneault RSS Feed)
- I, Cringely: This is a bit of a cheat because Mr. Cringely is a professional, but his posts are always real meaty that I find myself reading them multiple times. Sometimes his trains of thought take him to conclusions that are a bit outlandish, but I find it fun to follow him there. (Fave posts: The Great Apple Video Encoder Attack of 2007, What’s In A Name?) (I, Cringely RSS Feed)
- Mathew Ingram: Mathew has a solid journalism background plus common sense, and appreciate the sensibility at which he reaches conclusions. For pretty much every story that hits the top of Techmeme, I’ll read his take on it, and I usually find myself agreeing. Reliable, trustworthy journalism. (Fave posts: Lonelygirl15: A Chat With The Creators, Print May Be Dying, But The News Is Not) (Mathew Ingram RSS Feed)
Anyhow, that’s all the Thinking Blogs I’m allotted, so I hope you enjoyed this, and if anybody wants to name some blogs that make you think, run with it!
Disclosure: I own a tiny amount of Apple stock.

How funny that all of those blogs are already in my list of favorites… I guess it’s a small world of intelligent blogs…
Maybe another post could be done on blogs that are cool but not many people have heard about.

catch-22- if I’ve heard of a blog then chances are you have too. There’s tons of amazing content out there nobody has heard of, unfortunately. I try to remedy this problem by linking to quality related posts from all around the blogosphere(gathered through Technorati searches) from every post I make, with preference to less popular blogs.
Yeah good point. I should get back to my roots as a beginner blogger. I have tried to do so in the past but not as much lately. Thanks for the double-check!
I’m honored. Thank you.
Thanks a lot, Jason.

[...] I like playing by the rules, I just take those rules to their logical conclusions and push the boundaries. I like encouraging other people to think and getting people to question authority.
