Technorati = Nice Folks

I have decided today is Impromptu Shameless Plug day. So this post is a shameless plug for Technorati, for mostly personal reasons. Technorati is essentially a site where tons of blogs are indexed, meaning you can search for blogs articles to read. For the blogger, it hooks your blog up with readers and keeps track of your Technorati Rank based on how many other blogs have linked to yours.
Anyhow, a few weeks ago I was having some problems with this blog being called 412 Precondition Failed on Technorati. So I twittered about it, and amazingly, got a response from Adam at Technorati, who helped me fix it. Thumbs up for a totally improvised reply that totally circumvented the help desk.
I also observed that Shoemoney got a WTF T-shirt, and jokingly said I wanted one, too. So guess what, Adam sent me a WTF T-shirt plus some Technorati stickers. Sweet! Thanks, Adam.
Above is a picture of my wife wearing the Technorati WTF shirt and Mr. Java the cat enjoying a treat.
So here’s the plug: Please check out my previous post on Technorati’s WTF. It’s an interesting service, which admittedly I haven’t used much recently, but I plan pop in there and add a few more WTFs. Yeah, I’m easy.
All you bloggers out there can add links to your blog posts under the main subject. Here’s my cat WTF as an example.
So that’s Shameless Plug number one. One more to come, later in the day.
Front Page
I totally want one too. Adam, are you reading?
I 100% agree that they are nice folks. But I’ve still find I get a lot of headaches from their service. It used to be 1-2 weeks before you’d hear back from support (since fixed with their support forums).
I’m particularly displeased with how they lock you in to your blog URL. I screwed up my Technorati rank about a month ago when I changed the front page of my blog into a landing page and put my blog posts in /blog. Changing my domain name would mean looking my rank of 2000 and having to build it up again with new content.
(to be fair, they helped me fix my blog rank once I realized there was a problem and switch my blog settings back to the way they were)
That kind of outreach is totally key in the modern service marketplace, very cool !
Hmmm, maybe Adam will read this post and offer up some tips / advice.
Love them myself…I have a Technorati addiction!
Often slow and buggy to update, but overall a great service to bloggers.
Admittedly, changing your blog URL is problematic for us from a book-keeping standpoint. We count links to your blog, if those links continue pointing to your old URL space, re-mapping them to a new one isn’t something we have provisioned for.
We’re trying to tool up facilities that will at least make it easier for folks to correct adaptations our data needs to make. But I appreciate the feedback and hope that we’re providing helpful services.

Technorati
Technorati making help easy! what a wonderful thing, I think this just made Technorati get major points form me! they even sent you a T-shirt well done.
Sorry not to respond yesterday - things got a little hectic.
Jason, glad you liked the shirt. Love the pic - could you put it up on Flickr if you haven’t already? Some tags: Technorati, TechnoratiTShirt, WTF.
And btw, Dude, your latest title on Technorati is 500 Internal Server Error. I think you need a T-shirt for that, too. Wazzup with your server???
Tamar, a shirt is yours. Send me your snail addr and size pref. Note that we have women’s sizes; also, they seem to be running small. And, if you write a few WTFs you’ll make us smile. adam at technorati dot com.
Engtech, sorry if we’ve disappointed. Glad you like the forum — it seems to be helping lots of folks. If you have problems you can’t solve, email me personally, or even better, Janice Myint is a miracle worker.
Ryan, please give me/us more information about slowness, bugginess, etc. We feel like we’ve improved a lot lately, but really want to hear what you have to say.
Everyone else who commented, thanks for noticing us, and please, let us know how we can serve you better.
Best,

Hi Adam,
Yeah I dunno about my server. I’ve been noticing the 500 Internal Errors too. At least it’s nothing to do with Technorati!
