Battlestar Galactica: Thoughts On Upcoming Season 4

Battlestar GalacticaIt’s been two weeks since the Season Three finale, but I feel that due to the time gap between then and now, I’m in a better state of mind to make some predictions for Season 4.

I recently listened to the free “Frak Party” podcast from iTunes which had some additional information about the season finale from Ron Moore (a good synopsis at TV Squad):

  • The four Cylons are really Cylons - not a delusion as some have suggested. But they’re different from the seven that fly around in the base stars. There’s a back-story for each (including Tigh) that explains where they came from and hopefully how they’ve avoided detection for so long.
  • Chief and Callie’s child is yet another Cylon hybrid in addition to Hera. Yeah, this could get complicated.
  • Moore did voice a conflict between the network and the show creators. From what I infer, Moore fingers the network as pushing for self-contained episodes (lovingly called “filler” by myself and others). They claim that story arcs don’t allow for new viewers and punish people who miss an episode.
  • Supposedly they spent tons of money on the first four episodes of the season which limited what they could do for the rest (does that explain why we didn’t get any more killer space battles?).

Anyhow, here’s what I’d like to see happen in Season 4:

  • I hope the four Cylons that are on board Galactica start covert terrorist operations against the humans they live with - kind of like a sleeper cell that has been awakened. In retrospect, I really liked Tigh in terrorist mode back on New Caprica - maybe he’ll revert to that stance again.
  • Baltar will become some sort of quasi religious figure. I’d actually like to see some third base of power to compete against the military and government, especially since Roslyn and Adam seem to be growing closer together. I say bring on the religious overtones (Baltar = Jesus?) - it’s one area Battlestar Galactica didn’t tackle much in Season 3.
  • I hope Starbuck only appears in Lee Adama’s head, as Six does to Baltar. I think it would be pushing things too much to explain a physical Starbuck reappearing on Galactica.
  • If this is to be the last season, you can bet they’ll get to Earth. Hopefully it will take place over several episodes and give us all the meat that the situation implies. I don’t want any cop-outs like Galactica arrives to find Earth full of plants and dinosaurs, or Earth a slag heap due to nuclear war. Let’s see George Bush match wits with Commander Adama.
  • I hope to see the re-imagining of Serina, Muffit, Lucifer, and Boxey.

    I really do not want to see Saul Tigh or Chief Tyrol conducting sabotage aboard Galactica.

    I hate that they have taken these characters and ruined them like that. (Hope I am proven wrong though) Tyrol and Tigh in particular. No real comment on Anders or Tori - too new for me to think about it much.

    Hmmm so I take it you weren't too into the season finale revalations? I can see where you're coming from in that it's a pretty big character shift.

    I too was disappointed with the four who were revealed as part of the final five. I hope they are on the side of the humans which would explain why the other seven skinjob models "don't speak of them." Maybe they differ with the other seven as to their "plan" for humanity. Could it be that they think of humans as their creators who are superior and should be worshipped or served? Season Four should be interesting indeed. Why so long a wait? I read that the network has ordered 22 episodes of Painkiller Jane. Have we gotten a 22-ep season of BSG?

    I think I read somewhere that Season four has been upped to 22 episodes, but it might be the last. Some more research is needed.

    Starbuck is the fifth and final. An incarnation of Count Iblis

    Count Iblis? Please elaborate! Is that a character from the original television show?

    Maybe I should watch the old show to get some clues...

    Count Iblis is from TOS. I viewed him as an incarnation of Satan. TOS Galactica was saved from Iblis, in part, by the little balls of light that flew around the fleet.

    Anyhoo... The new Galactica needs more space battles. The Pegasus series from Season 2 were great: good story line, space battles and the colonials being able to stand up and give the Cylons a bloody nose.

    And to help the Galactica stand up to four or five basestars, two to four Battlestars uh... "manned" by a bunch of number 3's. The Cylons could not have boxed them all. And, since the Cylons could easily "turn off" a battlestar, there has to be a few Battlestars that were boarded and "cleaned" (if you will). Heck, the number 3's could have freed some colonists from testing to help them man the Battlestars. Too predictable?

    In their "bible," there is a phrase that says something like, "what has happen here has happened many times before." So have the Galactica and most of the fleet return to the colonies to re-colonize them and start over. Sometime in the next 10,000 to 20,00o years, a new Colonial-Cylon war would start (again). Neat twist, uh?

    this is a great show, and since it is going to take so long for season 4 to come out all i can say is each frakking episode should be beyond awsome, space battles galore, mabe destroy the cylon race in the end(thats just me)...........but ya, starbuck would make a cool 5th cylon. and that would be the best if the last couple of episodes everyone made it to earth in modern day time and showed us a thing or two about weaponry, FTL drives and all that. and to make things the absolute best if they got president Bush to greet commander Adama, since he willl be out of office by then anyway
