Apple announces 8 core Mac Pros and cheaper monitors: You can now outfit a MacPro with two 3.0 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors. Plus, the Apple Cinema Displays have dropped in price so you can get the cheapest 20″ flat panel for $599. Unfortunately, my “dream machine” ended up being about 5 grand which isn’t happening anytime soon (somehow, ParisLemon went even further and came up with a 16K mac).
Seeking the Sacred Raven at 10,000 Birds: I grew up in Hawaii, so this book likely tells a familiar story about how native species were pretty much toast once humans started populating the islands. I should read it.
Email is For Old People at Web Strategy by Jeremiah: (found via BaronVC): Them college age kids and their social website ways. When I was a kid, I had to dial up with a modem to connect with the BBS. The screens were green and we liked it.
Marissa Mayer Is Smart And Cute, but… at Valleywag: I dunno about that laugh.
Rick Blogs Negatively About A Book That’s Down On Blogging: Read a book dissing blogs and blog a negative review of it. Makes sense to me.
WinExtra Is Developing TwitBox: Twitter is cool. A blogger that develops software for it is mega-cool.

Ah, BBSes. I used to be part of iCE in the day.
Truly amusing. I spent some time on a bbs called “Saimin” back in the day. Looks like there’s still some info floating around out there. (member directory [I'm not on there]).
My pals Dave and Sang probably remember that place. I forget what their handles were…
The internet freaks me out sometimes.
Don’t forget HIX (Hawaii Internet Exchange, or some such thing).
I also remember borrowing Sang’s 900 baud modem for a while, this big blue behemoth of a box. Good ol’ preminiaturization days
I don’t know if I ever went on HIX.
I seem to recall having a 2600 baud modem that I paid $250 bucks for or something like that.
I wish I could remember Sang’s handle. I also remember “The Nuge” and “J Won” being on Saimin.
