Comments on: Gilmore Girls: No Eighth Season?

I would love to see more Gilmore Girls, I own all the seasons and have watched the series multiple times. However, I am not sure where they would go with it. Everyone seems to be so invested with Rory/Logan & Lorelai/Luke that the "drama" would have centre on these 4 pivotal characters and I think we've already delved into them too much.
Sure, we could see Luke and Lorelai get married and maybe see Rory and Logan back together again, but then what? It doesn't seem like that would be enough to fill a season.
So yes, I agree it was a disappointment that the Palladino's left after Season 6, and that Season 7 was a little sloppy, but I don't think it ended horribly.
We can defer from the previous seasons that Luke and Lorelai will work it out and get married, and as far as Rory goes - her whole role on the show was based on fulfilling her dream of becoming a journalist (or a CNN correspondent to be specific). She has always been an independent and ambitious young woman and I would have hated to see that stop due to Logan. So her graduating Yale and turning down his proposal kind of makes sense to me.

When i watch the series now and come to the final episode of season 7, I do feel really sad because it was such a fantastic and clever show. But I think that since it was so well-written and the characters were so developed, any ending wouldn't have done the show justice. You can't make everyone happy.
So let's all just enjoy the DVD's and smile at the memories - I know I will.

I think that they should keep this show going. They have gone this far why not make more seasons. This show is a wonderful show for the whole family and is a great influnce for teens. That no matter how hard life gets you can always go through it if you have your family and god.

I dont understand how so many people could care less about the Gilmore Girls, that show is one of the few shows on T.V. that I can watch without thinking to myself(how fake is that). They based the show on a wonderful mother-daughter relationship and the past 7 seasons have been nothing short of impressive, I’ve laughted, I’ve cried… and I’ve anticipated the 8th season. Hopefully people like ya’ll that dont appriciate a AMAZING show havent ruined the hope of an 8th season. I would am really looking forward to an 8th season(keeping my fingers crossed). I’d love to keep up with luke & lorelai’s relationship, and where life takes rory. PLEASE make a 8th season for this show, the ending of season 7 was not enough. I’m a Gilmore Girl addict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will really miss this show. Lauren and Alexis did an amazing job! My parents even enjoyed watching this show. Thanks to my best friend Cara, I got hooked on this show. Thanx Gilmore Girls for 7 great years!!

After all the of use have worked for your a just going to stop. It that is disappointing, use should go one last time and go out with a bang, e.g. charmed was ending in 7 but it was a terrible ending so they did 8 with the best ending you could have. Use need to end it fully, happily not on a hanger or like any normal episode. Make us believe its finish and put a smile on our faces. Do it for all use have worked for don’t through it away now!!!

Michelle I don't know the history but I from what I read on other sites, the Sherman-Palladinos left on bad terms with WB over contract issues. So for season 7 a totally different team wrote Gilmore Girls lead by David Rosenthal with different writers. I don't think the new team got a handle on the show until halfway through the season, maybe because they had to deal with Christopher getting married to Lorelai...

please someone tell me did Amy and Daniel actually leave on their own or did the execs. at CW get rid of them when they bought out WB. after that little deal happpened it seemed that the writing went down hill. I love the girls and cried immensly when it was anncounced, I am a single white female raising a daughter and connected with them personally, but I myself was ready to let it go when the CW took over.

well i should think that there should be a season eight because it has been really good. I think that Alecis-Bledel sould keep going in that season because she has been relly good with Louren Graham and i think it should keep going with the some people and making it more fun and it has been really good with all the seasons. Alecis-Bledel should keeping going with gilmore girls.

i would love for and 8th season, but i agree with some of you guys, that the writing is way out of wack, i love all of the chararcters, but if it is going to be like this, then i just wish logan woulde come back, and luke/lorelia will be married.

The more I think about it, it would have been better to tell the crew that the show was cancelled BEFORE they filmed the season finale, so they could create an ending with that in mind.

I guess we’ll see in two weeks if the season finale works as a show closer as well.

Naomi, I think the biggest issue I have with a season eight, is as you say, the writers really made a mess of season 7, so I’m not exactly confident they’d do a better job in season 8.

I will really have to be impressed by these last few episodes in season 8 to be willing to stick with the show for a season 8. Meanwhile I am looking for another show to watch.

Oh Liza you are right, I forgot about Dean (Jared P.) and his show Supernatural, which I don’t really watch!

wow, lots of interesting thoughts here…Gilmore Girls has lost that special place in my heart (and TV viewing timeslot) due to how badly written this season is…you know it’s not the actor’s fault — it all worked seamlessly before!

I’m at work (and under a deadline) so I’ll have to come back later and read your posts more thoroughly–but one thing I wanted to add is don’t forget another career jump–Jared Padendecki (ok let me check that spelling…Padlecki) and Supernatural–I never liked him

I’m glad I found you guys. I’ve been really upset at the botch that the writers made out of this great series. The Lorelai-Luke breakup was so depressingly wrong, and Luke acted like such a jerk that when Lorelai went back to Christopher, it was almost a relief. Of course I knew that they writers wouldn’t let them live in peace, that they’d have to break them up in some dumb way, and that’s exactly what happened. So unrealistic. Made Both of them look like immature idiots. And hey, you can’t exactly get married in France over a few days. It takes a long time…. Whatever. The show isn’t funny anymore, and it should be put out of its misery. Just give us two weddings at the end of it – Give Lorelai back that dress she wanted, and let Rory and the blonde get married and stop screwing around, that’s all I ask. I don’t think it’s too much. The actors deserved better material, and so if the Palladinos left this mess- and I think they did– it was not the most ethical or professional way to do it, whatever their beef with the studio. They owed their loyal fans something better, and they didn’t deliver. That’s wrong.

I don’t think Alexis not wanting to sign for another season can be seen as selfish in any way. I remember some rumours in the past about how Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t want to be Buffy anymore and also how Jennifer Aniston didn’t want to sign for one more season of Friends. And I never felt like they were selfish. Those are their personal lives after all. Fans rant for a while, but then get over it and move to another show.

That’s something I have thought. Alexis Bledel is a very private person and, as was said in some interviews, she is also very shy. So I see her refusal to stay in the show as her silent way to show her dislike of the writing. Her character – Rory – has been very badly written and what some critics have been saying about her are a prove that, aside money, Gilmore Girls has nothing more to offer her.
