During that 21-cat period, one of the cats, a Siamese, was expecting kittens. My mother made up a bed for her in my closet, but the cat kept leaving it to sleep on my bed and had to be moved back to the closet countless times. I woke up one morning with the oddest warm, wet weight on my belly, and there was the mother cat, looking right at me as though to say 'See what gift I have have bestowed upon you!' And God, the mess: three kittens she'd had, right on top of me. . .

At one point our family used to owned at most up to 5 cats, it was really interesting that each of them had their own personality and style. With twenty-one cats it is a totoally different situation though.

I guess one good thing is that I have found out is that cats usually require less care taking than dogs. I could never imagine one having twenty-one dogs, unless you have a team of dog-servant taking care of them :)

Twenty-one cats was too many, in fact, and even my mother knew it. She just couldn't bear to turn them away. . .

Wow, 21 cats is a lot! I can hardly imagine what dinner time sounded like.

At present we have two, a brother and sister, and they can be a handful. One sleeps on the bed with us. I shudder to think what would happen if 21 cats tried to sleep on the bed.

I come from a long line of cat people. My mother picked up so many strays that our house eventually became a cat magnet where people would virtually dump their cats; they knew we'd take them in. Our greatest number at one time was 21.

My sisters have carried on this tradition: my elder sister had fifteen the last time I visited her, and my younger sister had three. I'm a wimp: I have only one. As far as my sisters are concerned, one cat barely counts. Still, quality over quantity and my cat really is a singular cat, the Greatest Hunter in Scotland. I've never cleaned so many dead mice, voles, etc. off the carpet as I have in the years I've had this cat.

Nice to meet other cat appreciators.
