Early Predictions For Season 4 Of Battlestar Galactica

March 29th, 2007

Battlestar GalacticaThis guest post is by MG Siegler of Paris Lemon. It’s a blog I read regularly, as he’s a Battlestar Galactica and Apple fan. However, I must say, I didn’t read this post at all as I still haven’t seen the season finale! I’m sure it’s great, however.

[WARNING: SPOILER ALERT IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP ON BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, DO NOT READ ON]

While the season 3 finale of Battlestar Galactica was certainly one of those love-it or hate-it episodes, it’s time to start looking past it and onward to season 4.

Season 4 will consist of 22 episodes, the first 2 of while won’t actually be season 4 at all, but rather a 2-episode mini-movie about the backstory of the Battlestar Pegasus. I’m interested to see this story as it will show another angle after the initial Cylon attack and could reveal some interesting things about the Cylons that we don’t yet know. It’s also said that most of the main cast members will be appearing in these episodes in some facet. This is coming out sometime in the fall.

Then in January 2008, the official 4th season of BSG will kick off. Here are some predictions/thoughts:

  • Starbuck is not a Cylon, but instead exists in Lee’s head just like Six exists in Baltar’s. The fact that Starbuck is in his head, doesn’t make her a Cylon since we know Baltar is in Six’s head also though he is not one. Perhaps the Cylons cloned Starbuck during their tests on her. I think this Starbuck in Lee’s head will be kind of an evil, temptress Starbuck. Perhaps the Cylons figured out a way to control thoughts and placed her in Lee’s to further divide the fleet. Either way, expect the whole “imaginary friends” stuff to be explained further.
  • Tigh, Anders, Tyrol, and Tori are all in fact Cylons, but they are all Cylons modeled after real people. Perhaps this happened while they were on New Caprica; they were captured and eventually replaced with Cylon models of themselves without anyone, including them, noticing. Knowing Tigh was a captor for a while, this could certainly be a possibility for him, but for the others an explanation could be trickier. Still if all 4 were created on New Caprica, maybe they aren’t part of the “final 5″ at all.
  • If Tigh really is a Cylon, he would be perhaps the first humanoid model as he fought in the first Cylon war well before anyone knew about the human models. This is one of the main reasons for my thoughts above.
  • If Tyrol really is a Cylon, that makes his baby with Cally another hybrid; yet why does the Agathon/Sharon hybrid get all the hype, while no one gushes over this one? Maybe because no one knew Tyrol was a Cylon…but still the other Cylons and Baltar aren’t having strange visions about this hybird.
  • I would not be surprised to see the machine Cylons take a larger role after barely appearing in the past season. Perhaps we’ll learn about a supreme leader Cylon that is some kind of super computer. After all, the machine Cylons made the human-form Cylons, but they all seem to be nothing but mindless thugs up until now. I think this element is definitely needed with more humans being outed as Cylons, they simply aren’t imposing anymore… especially with Tyrol, Anders, and Tigh (and earlier Sharon) jumping right back into the fight as if they were humans.
  • We will definitely see Baltar’s lawyer again. He’s interesting and seems to have a larger role to play in all of this.
  • Baltar in hiding could continue his rise to almost God-like status. Tom Zarek is definitely going to try to kill him at some point. Probably Gaeta too.
  • I’m still not convinced Gaeta isn’t a Cylon. I just don’t trust that guy.
  • I think Roslin is going end up as the 5th Cylon (if the other 4 are in fact the 4 of the other 5). The relationship between Adama and Roslin will continue to grow, and then we’ll learn Roslin is a Cylon, and has known it all along, manipulating situations to try and destroy the human race while making it appear that she is the savior. This will destroy Adama sending him on a dark rampage never before seen on the show. Roslin could very well be the glowing one that the Lucy Lawless Cylon saw.
  • “All Along the Watchtower” was a transmission from Earth that is flying through space. Galactica will come so close to Earth but then miss it when something happens (a la the end of the original series). This could very well be the end of the series, the producers don’t sound too confident talking about a 5th season, but I sure hope not.

We’re gonna need to wait about 9 months to start finding out…

Thanks Paris Lemon! I really need to see this episode, as soon as I get back from vacation. Check out his blog at parislemon.com.

Aggggghhhhh. I seriously tried my hardest to post this without reading it in much detail but I did peek a bit. I really am excited to see this episode as it seems the reveals of “whos a cylon” are pretty massive.

I forgot my iTunes password at home so I can’t download the episode even though I have the computer here…

Will be back on saturday so I have the weekend to catch up…

According to rumours from Razor, a Hybrid tells Lt. Kendra Shaw that if people follow Starbuck to Earth it will be the end of humanity. I can see a huge battle between Galactica and Earth’s defense systems and in the end, nothing will be left apart from Baltar & Imaginary Six. Which means Baltar will eventually die and it will be the end of humanity.
