This episode is the first half of the season 3 finale. I had high hopes for it, which I guess is another way of saying it didn’t totally deliver for me (yet again). I think all the cool revelations are back-loaded for the second half.

We’re in the midst of Baltar’s trial, which resembled an episode of Law and Order complete with lawyers in suits, etc. I’m not a fan of courtroom dramas so I actually found this situation rather tedious. Lee Adama, almost inexplicably, totally wants to be a lawyer now, and goes so far as to resign from the military and piss off all off his colleagues. In the courtroom, he lays bare for all to see, Tigh’s alcoholism and Rosyln’s drug habit. He also pisses off his dad Commander Adama and Dualla. Is he about to leave town, or something?

The only surprises in this episode were:

  1. The Cylons have been tracking the fleet this whole time. Yawn.
  2. Rosyln still has cancer. Yawn.
  3. Some crew members (including Tigh) are hearing a song. Huh?
  4. Lee quits the military. Interesting, but so out of character that I think he’s bluffing.

So yeah, no totally bat-nuts surprises yet. All these plot threads, while strange, could easily lead nowhere. I’m hopeful the second half will provide answers that prove satisfying. Although at this point, I have no idea what they could possibly be.

What I want to see in the final episode:

  1. Something totally nuts that makes me want to watch Season 4. I’m talking a huge surprise: Adama’s a Cylon, Baltar is pregnant, Romo Lampkin is Starbuck reincarnated, they find Earth.
  2. I need to see some fraking space battles already. There hasn’t been a decent shot fired or nuke sent off in months, now.
  3. Explanations for all the random, seemingly important stuff that’s happened this season: Starbuck’s death, the final 5, why does Baltar have Cylons in his head?

Some random thoughts:

  1. Okay, so let’s be really crazy and maybe the Battlestar Galactica that came back to New Caprica was full of Cylons and the “real” Commander Adama and Lee are still out in space somewhere, on the road to earth. All the characters who were on New Caprica (Tigh, Chief, Anders, Callie, etc.) have been living amongst a ship filled with Cylon doppelgangers this whole time.
  2. Starbuck is a Cylon. She’s pregnant with Lee’s child, and was captured by the Cylons so they could have another human-Cylon hybrid now that Hera is on Galactica.
  3. A Cylon Sex Disease: The Cylons using sex to control humans through some venereal disease. Meaning everyone who had sex with a Cylon is infected. Remember that first scene way back when where Six’s spine glows red while Baltar is getting it on? Starbuck was infected while on Caprica in that ovary-lab. So the infected humans are: Baltar (explaining why he’s been seeing Six all this time), Lee, Dualla, Anders, Helo, Tigh (Ellen had sex with a Cylon and then I’m sure Tigh slept with Ellen before she died). They’re all frakking infected with Cylon germs! Maybe this leads to self-destructive behavior and an annoying propensity to act out of character from was established in Season 1 and 2.

And no, I haven’t read any spoilers anywhere, so next week I’ll be proven a genius or a complete idiot.

“Battlestar Galactica that came back to New Caprica was full of Cylons ” :
that is one of the best theories I’ve heard by far. Somehow I never thought of this, but it does make the preview of this week make some sense…

Not sure of the logistics, if it’s even possible, but that would be pretty crazy if that turns out to be true. That could also give a new twist to where Starbuck is…she was saved by the real Galactica!

You just got me very excited for Sunday again. Posting on it now.

Yeah… it would explain the mustache and the weight gain.

All three of my theories make less sense the more I think about it.

Oh and didn’t Baltar sleep with Starbuck at one point (end of season 1, I think)? Maybe he gave her the Cylon sex disease then?

just read something VERY interesting that I think you and i both missed somehow. no worries this wasn’t from a spoiler site or anything, just someone’s idea from a few weeks ago…could Zak, Adama’s other (dead) son and former lover of Starbuck be one of the Cylons? This would certainly provide a lot of juicy content for next season…

Interesting MG - have we ever seen what Zak adama looks like? I can’t remember.

Still wondering how I’m going to watch this last episode while I’m in another country…. argghh…
