New iMac? It’s Already Perfect
It seems new iMacs are right around the corner, and according to Apple Insider they might have a “substantial facelift” that will be “striking” and have “onlookers smitten.”
Jonathan Ive has supposedly gotten involved once again and improved on the iMac.
But I’m kind of wondering, what the heck else could possibly be done to an iMac to make it even more “perfect“?
I’ve read some rumors that it will be a black iMac. That’s so - superficial. I hope it’s something greater.
Maybe it will be some radical functionality enhancement, like multitouch - a touch-sensitive display. It’s in the iPhone, so people might want it on their home computers.
Or how about going one step further - the monitor can lift off of its stand so you can carry it around the house - like a ModBook. Maybe it communicates wirelessly with a base?
Check out this sweet imagining of a translucent iMac at SilverMac (the image is by Adam Benton). Can we say - Minority Report - if combined with multitouch? Hold me back! Even that freaking see-through keyboard would be worth getting in line for.
What are some other options? Well, Michael Parekh is a fan of the “sunflower” rotating screen. DamienG suggests Apple could explore different enclosure materials, like carbon fibre or berylium.
Still, one step better than perfect is hard to imagine. All I can muster is a faster processor and a thinner case. So this is one computer redesign that really, can’t lose. No matter what - I’m sure to be impressed.
