New iMac? It’s Already Perfect
It seems new iMacs are right around the corner, and according to Apple Insider they might have a “substantial facelift” that will be “striking” and have “onlookers smitten.”
Jonathan Ive has supposedly gotten involved once again and improved on the iMac.
But I’m kind of wondering, what the heck else could possibly be done to an iMac to make it even more “perfect”?
I’ve read some rumors that it will be a black iMac. That’s so — superficial. I hope it’s something greater.
Maybe it will be some radical functionality enhancement, like multitouch — a touch-sensitive display. It’s in the iPhone, so people might want it on their home computers.
Or how about going one step further — the monitor can lift off of its stand so you can carry it around the house — like a ModBook. Maybe it communicates wirelessly with a base?
Check out this sweet imagining of a translucent iMac at SilverMac (the image is by Adam Benton). Can we say — Minority Report — if combined with multitouch? Hold me back! Even that freaking see-through keyboard would be worth getting in line for.
What are some other options? Well, Michael Parekh is a fan of the “sunflower” rotating screen. DamienG suggests Apple could explore different enclosure materials, like carbon fibre or berylium.
Still, one step better than perfect is hard to imagine. All I can muster is a faster processor and a thinner case. So this is one computer redesign that really, can’t lose. No matter what — I’m sure to be impressed.
I too hope for something greater than a black iMac…plus Microsoft has already jumped on this bandwagon with word of the black Xbox 360 today, so it’s time for a new trend.
The puke brown iMac
? Heh.
I’m not in the market for a new iMac, but I’m excited to see what Apple comes up with!
Yeah I just can’t imagine what could be improved on. We have an old G4 iMac (the “sunflower one”) that is in serious need of replacing…
I was hoping they would make the new imac look like apple’s cinema display but they made it super ugly with the black.
The front apple logo is distracting. I don’t like the black screen frame and the black plastic back looks simply cheap.
Why is Apple trying to make the new computers match standard pc’s like dell.
I love the apple cinema display, They elegant gray metal looks expensive and the white is easy on the eyes. Not to mention it has a clean look on my desk.
I hope they update the mac mini but leave the design alone because I am not buying the new imac in the new design. It’s just ugly.
Maybe all their designers were working on the iphone and so apple contracted out the new imac design to China.
