Cate Blanchette In Indiana Jones 4

March 17th, 2007

Just saw a headline saying that Cate Blanchette has signed on to a starring role in “Indiana Jones 4″. Sounds good to me. She was awesome in The Aviator.

But about this fourth movie. As with everything that seeks to drag my childhood over the coals, I’m skeptical. I recently watched Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade and they both hold up amazingly well. I think it’s because both films were intended to be period pieces so there isn’t anything in them that’s dated. There’s also some pretty smart writing and direction that keeps things moving and knowing just the right moment to have a joke or suspense.

Here are some of thoughts / concerns I have:

1. Will (did) Lucas screw up the script? A while back I heard it was held up because Lucas had some issues. Knowing Lucas’s “talents” regarding screenplay writing with the Star Wars prequels, I have my doubts.

2. The tomb of Christ hopefully is not part of the plot, as real events have rendered it rather unexciting.

3. I really hope Karen Allen and Kate Capshaw are in there.

4. Sean Connery, too.

5. I think the decision to eschew CGI is awesome.

6. Please respect Harrison Ford’s age.

Well, read up on everything at the usual places (and some questionable ones). I just did.

Wow — I didn’t know that Indy IV was back on track to get made! Blanchette is great, I’d watch her in anything.

Yeah I’m hopeful – especially after watching the indy trilogy recently.
