Japan Trip: Next Week Thursday
So my wife and I are going on a vacation to Japan starting next week Thursday with my parents. We’ll be out of town for a week and half. We’re going to Tokyo and Kyoto and some places in between. I’ve never been to Japan so this will be a lot of fun - especially seeing what conversational Japanese I can remember from highschool. Not much, I’m thinking.
I’m definitely bringing the MacBook, but the big question will be how much time I’ll have to update this blog. So there may be sporadic posts while I’m away. But I’m sure there will be some fun technology related adventures and photographs I’ll be posting here upon returning.

hey jase,
are you planning on a hawaii visit at all?
Sang, where r u? What are your latest plans dood!
Hawaii might have to wait until thanksgiving…
I’m in Hawaii now! I’ve just started looking for jobs in SF and LA… I’ll let you guys know how things go. It’s so peaceful here, I can’t seem to get anything done.
Sang that’s the island time getting a hold of you.
Dammit Sang, come move out to where Jase and I are in the proverbial tech world of milk and honey!
I volunteer Jase’s guest room for you if you need to crash a few nights
Oh, and if you must, I suppose you can crash on my sofa…
I hear you on the Hawaii thing though. When I’m there I pretty much just want to pass out under a coconut tree and embrace the lethargy.
I’ve been golfing almost every other day… it’s slow, very slow here. Well, I’m sending a few applications to the bay area. maybe next, lol.
The island life is so mellow.
I think i gained like 10 pounds, seriously.
Dang - what are you eating - plate lunch…? Sometimes I want to eat Grace’s plate lunch or Zippys.
i’ve been eating my mom’s food… i go to Zippy’s on occasion late at night… that stuff is kind of narcotic, hehe.
jase, on our trip to japan last spring we found that in major cities like osaka it was actually surprisingly difficult to find free wifi. we went to the apple store in osaka and they actually asked my husband to stop using his laptop he brought there (he had to send an important file). so he went outside the front door and used it out of sight.
there were plenty of internet cafes but they usually required some type of membership. some of my relatives had broadband at home. hopefully your hotels will have at least a wired connection to tap into. it seems most folks our age use email on their cell phones; wifi didn’t seem as popular.
Hmmm, that’s not so good. Maybe I’ll set this blog up so it can be updated via email (should be possible). Hey, there’s a project for the weekend.
What was the power situation? Do I need to get an adapter for this laptop?
well, if you have your two-prong number (that you probly connect to the grounded plug here), you should be ok. i seem to remember that grounded 3-prong ones aren’t everywhere, but then again, we did spend some time in the boonies…
Hi em - our neighbor (he’s from Japan) lent us an adapter (it’s a three prong to two prong one). We’re pretty clueless, I know… I’m actually more afraid of the toilets :! !!!
Have fun, dude! Japan sounds awesome.
