Comic Book Hunt At Wondercon
March 3rd, 2007
Spent the day at Wondercon, a large, annual comic book convention in San Francisco. I haven’t done much comic book reading or collecting lately, but I had a short list of comics I’d been looking for, according to my semi-obscure genere fixations – more specifically, comic books made from cheesy sci-fi movies of my childhood.
So I now have issues 1 – 5 of Marvel’s Battlestar Galactica. These comics paralleled the first episodes of the television series (I believe the first episode was made into the Battlestar Galactica movie).
I also got issues 1 – 4 of the Logan’s Run comic book adaptation. I guess I forgot to track down numbers 5 – 8. Rats.
I also have the first 6 issues of Marvel Star Wars.
Why am I into this stuff? Well, with the Star Wars movie adaptation, the comic used the script as a basis before the film was finalized. Hence, the comic includes some scenes that didn’t make the final film cut, such as a sequence on Tatooine where Luke is hanging out with his friends. I’m wondering if there are also differences from the films in the Logan’s Run and Battlestar Galactica adaptations.
That, and I also get a kick out of the slightly awkward, suspect quality of the art. I should write some more substatial posts on these comics in the future.
Yeah, this is geeky, but what better way to enjoy this stuff than at a comic book convention surrounded by people way nerdier than you in Stormtrooper and Cosplay outfits.
And it’s not all nerdville. My wife came with as well, and she bought some cool Gama-Go T-shirts.
