Too Much Entertainment
February 21st, 2007
So I moved to a work schedule where I have every Wednesday off. I was hoping to use some of this extra time to focus on blogging, but it’s working out rather strangely. I was pretty productive in the morning (getting caught up on Battlestar Galatica and Gilmore Girls), but come afternoon, I was asleep on the couch with two cats around my head, listening to Radiohead.
I’m looking for something else to occupy my time for a multi-post series. I’m definitely losing steam on Gilmore Girls, my James Bond movie watching has nearly come to an end (I ought to watch the non-canon Casino Royale), and Battlestar Galactica obviously won’t have any new episodes come summer.
For music, I’ll be doing a series on Radiohead which might be more complicated than I initially thought. They have tons of B-sides and singles that I need to cull through. But it’ll be fun; I’m looking forward to it.
But back to television and movies. I was recently lent several series on DVD that I could easily write about. One likely candidate is The Prisoner, a 60s era psychological thriller sci-fi show that had less than twenty episodes. I just watched the first three and I’m hooked.
Another possibility is The Avengers, lent to me by a pal who noticed my Diana Rigg fascination in the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. However, over a hundred episodes is something truly intimidating, so that’s probably out. He also lent us Father Ted which is definitely a hoot, but rather fluffy.
Next, I obviously could re-watch all the Star Trek Original Series (again). I also kind of crapped out on watching all the AFI movies which I should get back to. Or, I could also go back and re-watch all of Battlestar Galactica seasons 1, 2, and the miniseries. Sometimes I wish I weren’t such a completist.
I haven’t even mentioned any of the new shows currently running that I could be watching: Heroes comes to mind.
But writing about fatblogging made me realize I definitely spend too much time at the computer as is. Seeing how I fell asleep on the couch today, sitting through endless hours of television certainly won’t do my body any favors, and ironically, make my Wednesday blogging time even less productive.
So The Prisoner is my next likely choice due to few episodes yet rich in quality - not much fat. So much entertainment, so little time.
