Battlestar Galactica: Who’s The Cylon?

February 17th, 2007

Parislemon has a good post with some thoughts as to who might be revealed to be a Cylon in the next episodes of Season 3.

Battlestar GalacticaIt’s been rumored that one of the Galactica crew members will be revealed to be a toaster before the end of the season.

It seems like Starbuck was fingered with those sketches of the Eye of Jupiter, but another rumor claims it’s not her.

I don’t think it’s Gaius Baltar. Anybody with a kid is probably out, too (we don’t need more Cylon-human hybrids). So there goes Chief and Callie. Helo we know for sure isn’t, as the baby is definitely a Cylon-human hybrid. Tigh, he drinks way too much. Wouldn’t all that liquor short circuit a Cylon? He led the resistance. And then, why would he give a frak if Ellen slept with a Cylon?

My bets are on Apollo, Gaeta, or Dualla.

With Apollo, there was an episode where the Cylon who got shoved out the airlock said “Adama is a Cylon” to Rosyln. At the time, it seemed like he was talking about Commander Adama. But it could have been Lee (this a theory of a co-worker of mine). There’s also a whole blog that is sure Lee Adama is a Cylon.

With Gaeta, he’s always been kind of mysterious. He doesn’t have any romantic attachments. What does he do in his spare time? Besides hang with Baltar?

Dualla, she acts like a robot already. Plus, if she were a Cylon, that would provide an easy end to the love square going on.

Anyhow, my last offering on this subject are some random polls. Check out this one. It looks like a tie between Gaeta and Tigh. Meanwhile, This poll offers up Baltar, Gaeta, and Dualla.

Note: So I set up a poll of my own - to the right are a bunch of characters to choose from. I’ll leave this poll up there until the end of the season just to see how it develops.

The only other possibility is that logic will completely be defied in order to provide a totally crazy season finale. Remember how stunningly nuts the season finale of Season Two was. It’s possible the show will take another absolutely insane turn, and out one of the big cheeses as a Cylon: Commander Adama or Roslyn. That would be totally mind bending - but possibly exactly what this show needs to keep us on the edge of our seats for Season 4.

Good call on Helo, I was just thinking about that at dinner, the kid being a human/cylon hybrid…obviously if sharon is the cylon half, he MUST be the human half. unless it’s not his…the chief’s?… lets not even get into that.

The more I think about this, I think the producers have the guts to make it Roslyn or Bill Adama.

I’m thinking an awesome way to end the season would be: one of them dies on the galactica. Then whoever it is wakes up in the ressurection tank and are like: WT Frak? All the cylons look at them and are confused too.

Whoa, I was seriously thinking about the exact same scene earlier today…but then I thought it might be a little too much like when Baltar was hallucinating and woke up in the tank, cause for a second you weren’t sure if that was real.

  4. comment Gravatar webomatica - February 20th, 2007

Heh… I think it could work. I mean, when Batlar was being tortured, I expected him to be in the tank, but if it’s someone totally different that might be enough of a spin to make it cool.

My pal Dave has some truly strange theories - he’s been putting them in the comment thread in this other post though.

Lastly - looks like Gaeta is ahead in my weekly poll as the Cylon. Good call…!

After this week’s episode, I think Seelix may be one of the final five. Maybe it’s not an accident that Chief and Cally got locked in there.

Ok, Jase you may laugh but note that some other loon has also voted for the Galactica (ship) in your online poll!!!

    This theory has some legs!

Dave I was curious if that was you playing around… anythings possible I suppose…!

As for Seelix, I don’t even remember her as a character before the airlock episode (which I just watched). Anyhow, yeah, it could be possible she’s a Cylon as she’s a relatively inconsequential character so far… I added her name to the poll to see how that develops.

As for the poll, Gaeta is still ahead.

[...] Lastly, the question of who’s the Cylon still remains. There was certainly much evidence that it isn’t Commander Adama, Rosyln, Chief, or Callie. But the character lurking in the shadows: Seelix, who frankly I never noticed up until this episode, might be a candidate, as suggested by commenter Slap. [...]

I hope it’s Apollo. Most of the other candidates haven’t exactly been developed enough for the revelation to be interesting and Apollo himself could use a nice new arc. He was one of the major players early on, but lately he’s just blending into the background of whatever story they’re telling.

It also occurred to me that it might be Anders, but we didn’t get much background on him, so things might be lacking proper build-up.

I’m liking Gaeta as a Cylon, but I doubt he is the one.

Baltar is still my #1 bet. BSG isn’t really a show that relies on sensationalism and I’d probably be disappointed if they changed course from drama to the kind of thing you see in a J.J. Abrams show.

Anyway, interesting post. I’ve enjoyed reading it. :)

Wow, The Galactica (ship) submission on your poll is really interesting…that never crossed my mind… That would be crazy! Abandon ship!

  11. comment Gravatar webomatica - February 21st, 2007

Okay… Apollo is as possible as anybody, but just for the counterpoint, there are some good reasons against, namely did he get swapped out as a child with a Cylon? Who was Commander Adama raising this whole time? And what does it mean from the Starbuck / Dualla / Anders thing?

Anders has a lot going for it since he seemed to just show up - maybe all those resistance fighters on Caprica were Cylons? Maybe it was all a plot to get some Cylons on board Galactica and spy on ‘em? Maybe Starbuck was swapped with a Cylon model when her ovaries got harvested? Or on New Caprica?

I dunno this could go anywhere.

I think the only thing for sure is Galactica is NOT a cylon :)

Dammit Jase, I’m telling you — pull together a blog post on this galactica as a cylon theory. It will get dugg! Your reputation may go south, but you will get pageviews! ;-)

    I’m sorry…I need to let it go…

  13. comment Gravatar webomatica - February 21st, 2007

Heheh… that theory is totally nuts. But hey, maybe when the ship was infected by the virus it turned into a Cylon. There could be some precedent - there were some star trek episodes where the Enterprise got hooked up to a computer that gained control etc.

But I’ll only run with it if the Galactica can try to mate with a Cylon base star.

the whole point of the final 5 is that they are the final 5 human models. Id like to see a ship standing in that little circle dressed in white.

Also, supposedly the cylons dissappeared less then 100 years ago, when they dind’t have human models. When they came back and nuked the colonies they had human models. So if they dind’t have human models 100 year earlier, how can there be so many human models THOUSANDS of years earlier.

    hmmmmmm

Here’s my new theory that I thought about on my way to work. 4 cylons = Adama and his family (Bill, Lee, Caroline, the other son). The Cylons tried to get Lee to impregnate Starbuck but it didn’t work. They also tried to impregnate Starbuck with Lee’s brother. The fifth Cylon could be either Dualla or Roslyn.

    Think about THIS:
At the Temple of the Five on the algae planet, D’Anna, when she sees the face of one of the Five, she says, “…I didn’t know…forgive me.” Who, among those she perceived to be human would she feel the need to ask for forgiveness?
Could it be Tigh, who was tortured by the Cylons on New Caprica?
Bulldog, who the Cylons imprisoned for three years, aboard a basestar?
Admiral Adama, who D’Anna deceived on “Final Cut” in making her documentary film?
Anders, who she tried to kill in the parking garage on Caprica City?
Gaeta, who she and the other Cylons bullied on New Caprica?
Plus, Moore and Eick say the person who’ll be revealed as a Cylon is someone we know well.

  17. comment Gravatar webomatica - February 24th, 2007

The plot thickens. Obviously I’m hoping more and more will be revealed regarding this “who’s the cylon” subject in coming episodes.

Griff, it is good for you to point out what D’Anna said. Obviously it’s someone who she had met before.

    Check this out (SPOILER ALERT):

Tigh seems really freaked by Caprica Six right there - maybe she’s telling him something that blows his mind.

  19. comment Gravatar webomatica - February 27th, 2007

Hmmm, if that picture is Six revealing a Cylon, it’s probably someone Tigh knows well and trusts…

  20. comment Gravatar mike - March 23rd, 2007

    Remember the radio noise people were hearing? THATS the CLUE!! It was Tigh & Anders. Also I agree Gaeta is a prime choice. Thats 3 out of five. I dont see Adm Adama, Lee, Callie, Cheif, any of the pilots, the Doctor, Helo or Baltar. That only leaves Roslyn (a Cylon with cancer though?) Zarek, Starbuck (doubt it), Dualla (doubt it), Seelix (Who is this?), Tory (likely). so my best guesses are for the following;
    Tigh
    Anders
    Tory
    Zarek
    Gaeta

  21. comment Gravatar webomatica - March 24th, 2007

It could be that everyone who hears the radio is a Cylon? I think that might include that assistant of Roslyn. Can’t exactly recall who else has been hearing it.
