The Economist Gets Bloggy
This a very simple set up, but it’s smart. The Economist is publishing letters to the editor in blog form, and opening them up to comments.
I used to subscribe to the magazine but found the cost is somewhat prohibitive. They have a solid take on world events from a needed viewpoint outside of America.
It’s one of the few magazines I still occasionally grab from the newsstand to suppliment my every-growing, internet-only reading habits.
I used to subscribe too but found I couldn’t keep up with the weekly issues
The Economist really makes you realize how out of touch we are with the world in the U.S. Every week I’d go through the capsule news section in the front and think to myself…holy hell, I didn’t read about any of this stuff in the mainstream American press.
I also found (sadly) that I had a hard time following some of the stories from parts of the world I don’t normally read about.
I think you can get cheaper subscription rates by posing as a student. I guess technically you work for an educational institution, so maybe you’d be eligible.
Yeah I think I recall seeing some issues over at your place.
Definitely agree with you about how different the news coverage is. While I won’t pretend to understand a lot of what’s in there (I’m not an economist) I feel like when I read it, my mind was being stretched somewhat.
I’m really clueless when it comes to British politics, so a lot of their coverage of Blair, parliament and how it works was pretty interesting to me.
