Link Sharing: 2/1/07

WebomaticaI’ve noticed some other blogs doing this sort of thing, and this might be a handy way to highlight some stuff that doesn’t deserve a full blog post, but I still found amusing or interesting. So every Friday (or Thursday, in this case - because I don’t have anything else moving me) I plan on doing a more “list style” post featuring links to stuff I’ve collected during the week, hopefully at least five fun links.

David Pogue on how Vista Didn’t Rip Off OS X: David Pogue is a Mac guy who mostly writes for the New York Times. In this clip, he compares some very similar features in Vista with OS X to sarcastically demonstrate how they aren’t similar at all.

Astonishing Tales Screenplay Generator: Probably because I was musing about working on a treatment of “Ferrets” this page has some appeal. I got a good chuckle from cramming various Webomatica posts through it.

Documentary about gangs in San Francisco circa 1961: Kinda long (I didn’t watch the whole thing) but amusing to see how what was considered a “hoodlum” back then (jeans, greased hair, listening to rock music), today looks conservative. I wonder what the kids in 2047 will be doing to annoy their parents. Probably eyeball piercings, drinking toilet water, and dancing to music made from nuclear explosions.

Food Network McDonald’s Subliminal Ad: Don’t know if this is true or not, but the Food Network flashed a McDonald’s logo during a television show, for a split-second.

UK Mac Ads: Neat to see how these ads translate for a different country (I think there are some Japanese equivalents). Would be awesome if Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington had a go.

Chav Quiz: For some reason the previous email was sent around work, and discussion soon devolved into “Chav” analysis. If you think you might be a chav take this quiz. Here’s a previous post with me trying to figure out what on earth a Chav is. If you still have no clue, check here and here. I guess what I find amusing are these words that are difficult to translate from one country to another.

And for whomever’s keeping track (besides me):
