I haven’t written anything about bottle caps recently, so for variety’s sake, I should mention some things about how that project is going. I recently got about 35 or so Canadian ones in the mail from a trade.

Bottle cap trading is pretty amusing, but it does take time. I basically send scans of the extra bottle caps I have, the person selects which ones they want, and I do the same with their scan. Then you put your bottle caps in the mail and hope the other person is honorable and send you what they said they would. I’ve done about 10 trades now and they’ve all been successful.

One thing that’s pretty cool about this project is that I’ve gotten many bottle caps from donations. One person sent me a bag with about 200 bottle caps I had never seen before. I think some people have childhood bottle cap collections and don’t quite know what to do with them - so they search on the internet and my site comes up. For the SEO folks, if you type in “bottle cap collection” into Google my site comes up on the second page - not ideal, but I’m getting there.

So my goal for the end of 2007 is to get up to 3,000 unique bottle caps. Right now, I have 1211, with about 50 to be added to the site that I haven’t gotten around to yet. It’ll be a challenge to get up to that goal but I’ll definitely be enjoying myself on the way up.
