Google Plus YouTube: Search For Videos

January 25th, 2007

GoogleThis makes so much sense but it’s still notable. As of right now, when you go to Google Video and search for something, links to content hosted on YouTube are included in the results.

My search for France Gall took twice as long on YouTube’s site itself (I won’t speculate why) and turned up the same results.

Brilliant, as something shifted on YouTube for me, a few months ago. There’s literally so much stuff up there, that presently, if I have the hankering to watch something television-related, I search on YouTube, and usually, exactly what I’m looking for is there. This is a shift in perception, from watching what they have (as on iTunes) versus assuming they have what you want.

Video search will surely be huge, because it’s something mainstream, middle of the road people really want, yesterday. Some of the most-visited pages on this measly blog are essentially just YouTube video shells (namely, this Shoes video and the iPhone and iPod one). Most of this traffic is coming from Google searches.

And as for search, surely there will be a day when not only the tags or the title are included as searchable metadata, but also the content (transcripts and images appearing within the video). I’m sure Google will figure out a way to do this. They’re already tackling text, images, books, and now video. Will Google Thought Search be next?

Here are some interesting ideas of other ways Google can work with YouTube at SplashCast.

    Thank goodness for this.

If there’s one thing that YouTube really sucks at it’s their inhouse video search. Marrying the best search with the best video repository will do wonders for destroying worker productivity across the galaxy :-)

We’re way ahead of Google on the idea of Thought Search, according to this reputable news source: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30522

Heh — soul search — funny. So can Yahoo! get Star Search going on to find the next American Idol?
