The Bangles Albums, Best to Worst

January 14th, 2007

I suppose this album ranking is no surprise, but it must be done. I’ll follow this post with my favorite Bangles songs, and a review of their few singles for completeness’ sake.

1. All Over The Place

3.727 stars

Guitar-heavy, basic production, reminiscent of Rubber Soul or Revolver, with a heavy dose of a “love me right — or I’m out of here” sentiment. Might be a welcome surprise to those who only know the Bangles for Walk Like An Egyptian, Hazy Shade Of Winter, and Eternal Flame.

2. Different Light

3.666 stars

This mega-successful album (due to the hits Manic Monday and Walk Like An Egyptian features a nice variety of tempos, situations, and moods. However, the pop-centric production and tons of covers may have painted the group in a different light than they would have preferred.

3. Everything

3.077 stars

An over-arching, commercial sheen obscures some competent songwriting. Contains the songs In Your Room and Eternal Flame.

4. Doll Revolution

3 stars

The return of the Bangles is decent stuff, with some songs better than anything since All Over The Place, but there’s a different problem: too many songs for even this Bangle-phile, at fifteen tunes. Which unfortunately causes it rank even lower than Everything.
