Webomatica Blogging Momentum

January 8th, 2007

Wow, what a strange week. First, one of my posts made it to the front page of ShoutWire. Then, Valleywag took hold of my frustration with Second Life. Then TechMeme started taking notice of my technology ramblings, including little old me in the conversation. Lastly, I signed up for MyBlogLog and through that nifty service, I’m discovering some awesome, interesting blogs I never knew existed, and making contacts with the writers behind them. As a result, I’m slowly creeping up the Technorati ranks and seeing blog traffic steadily increase. It seems the distant spotlight is getting brighter.

These past months of blogging have been awesome fun. I never thought when I started this project people would be all that interested in what I had to say. I’m still adjusting to the idea that my opinions might actually have some weight in the world (to an albiet tiny degree).

But I’m realizing I need to think a bit more carefully about what subjects I write about, do the research, and get the facts as straight as possible. I also have to maintain the integrity and quality of this blog. And any mistakes could come back to haunt me. I don’t want the spotlight to become an oncoming freight train.

So I’m vowing to stay as objective as one person can, and not get caught up with popularity, traffic, or being goaded into certain opinions or writing about certain subjects in the hopes of increased readership or advertising revenue. I also need to streamline some workflow so I can keep up the blogging momentum without burning out.

But the bottom line is, I plan to simply keep doing what I’ve been doing - since it seems to be working better than I ever thought possible. And no matter what happens, as long as I continue working towards my goals for 2007, I’ll be happy.
