Movie Notes: Idiocracy Was Online

January 7th, 2007

I wanted to see this movie when it first came out but it never played anywhere near me. It’s Idiocracy, by Mike Judge, the brains behind Office Space, King of the Hill, and Beavis and Butthead - starring Luke Wilson who visits a future where America has devolved into a nation of morons. Anyhow, without further ado, here’s a link to Idiocracy hosted on Dailymotion. Enjoy it while it lasts (sorry, it was taken down not too long after I wrote this post).

It turned out Idiocracy wasn’t super-funny. There were definitely some chuckle-inducing moments, such as the way corporations and advertising have taken over every aspect of life, and the way vulgarity and the middle finger have become standard greetings. But overall it’s not as biting or satirical as I had hoped. But hey, you can’t beat free!

  • Movie has been taken down.
  • Rats. Oh well!

I found the movie to be very well done and pretty funny but then again I had no expectations or build up in mind when the movie popped on my screen. Life works in that 'can't see the forest for the trees' sometimes.
  • Yeah you're probably right. I think I was expecting it to be super funny because I read about the plot previously on Aint It Cool.
  • The movie has been posted to YouTube (shhhh; loose lips get videos taken down).
