Adobe’s Boring Icons
So if you’ve downloaded the Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta you may have noticed the new application icon. It’s basically a blue square with the letters “Ps” on it. I thought it was a beta icon place-holder until Adobe could design a better one, but it’s actually the final one. The whole product line is moving to this square, minimalist look. I’m reminded of a periodic table of elements - scientifically useful but boring with a capital “Bo.”
I know this is totally nit-picky with an outstanding program and totally worth-while upgrade, but I think these simple icons look like ass. Pretty much all the other programs in OS X are moving towards a stylized, photo-realistic icon approach, and although that has it’s issues as well, for Adobe to go backwards in this regard… well, it actually, despite any logic, it makes me not want to put the icon in the dock!
