TechCrunch Article at SFGate
December 6th, 2006
Pretty neat article on TechCrunch’s Mike Arrington at SFGate.
Kind of amazing to read that the TechCrunch blog only started 18 months ago. It was started as a hobby, and now garners 2 million page views a month. They’re also profitable, with a reported 500K in the bank. The blog is so popular that many Web 2.0 companies hope to be covered by a post as part of their marketing strategy.
Note to self: I have no prayer of this blog even being 1,000th as popular as TechCrunch. Still, I might have a shot at being able to cover hosting fees and bottle cap trading postage…
I like Arrington’s nod to Philip Kaplan of F — Company which I read daily during the Web 1.0 bust. The black humor of that site helped take the edge off some hard times, and the relatively low-tech, money saving ways of that site was a good antidote to the Web 1.0 excess of thinking advertising required a million dollar Super Bowl spot.
The second to last paragraph is sure to start some fur flying, though: “Nick Denton is evil” (Nick Denton writes the progressively more abrasive and less funny Valleywag blog) Read Nick Denton’s reaction here.
I love the smell of bloggers sniping in the morning.
