Interesting: Lost Bands Of The New Wave Era

November 27th, 2006

MusicHere’s another website I find interesting: Lost Bands of The New Wave Era. I’m showing my age once again, but if asked what “New Wave” is, I’d say it was certain musicians who got sick of disco, hard rock, and prog rock, and decided to get back to the music of the fifties via punk rock with some synthesizers on top - at least that’s my amateur opinion.

Anyway, the website documents many bands I’ve never heard of, via text, sound examples, and links to YouTube videos.

It seems a common thread is to name your New Wave band after a plural noun (The Mosquitos, The Whyos, The Smirks, The Three Johns, The Shivvers). There’s also a lot of catch-up information in the form of who-quit-and-joined-what-band and what are they doing now? And of course, there are some totally awesome Reagan-era photographs to get you back in that 80s groove.
So check it out. At the very least, you can get your fix of listening to unfamiliar retro music, and may even find something you like that warrants further exploration.
