During times of caffeine-induced jitters, I sometimes come up with business ideas that seem great at the time, but probably aren’t. In the spirit of sharing, I thought I’d let some of these concepts loose on this blog for public scrutiny (or ridicule). Please let me know your thoughts, especially if you’d like to open up a franchise.

The Business: Fake Travel Photos.

Description: A service where customers are photographed in front of a green screen (or customers send in digital photo files) and digitally pasted into exciting tourist destinations of their choice. The resulting product are digital photos that are indistinguishable from the real thing. The purpose is to give the impression that an exotic trip has taken place when it actually hasn’t. Could also apply to video.

Target Market: People who can’t afford to travel but want to impress their friends by saying they did. People who want to appear more worldly than they really are. People who need an alibi for nefarious actitivies. People who want to save money on travel but still look worldly or wealthy. People with active imaginations.

Problems: Enourages lying. Background images would have to be constantly rotated in order to keep the ruse up.
