Gilmore Girls: Go, Bulldogs!

I put off seeing the Borat movie for the latest Gilmore Girls, which may have been a mistake. The show is still passable and gets a few smiles from me, but is going in a direction I’m not too keen on. Stars Hollow is starting to feel – hollow.

Luke looks to be totally over Lorelai, preferring to hang with the daughter-he-never-knew April, and her swim teacher. Yes, Luke goes out on a date, but she turns out to be a psycho-vegan-relationship-hopper. Not a good match for Luke, who rushes home to a cheese pizza. Funny, yes, but also sad in that Luke doesn’t even hesitate at the chance to eat a soy steak with a new, pretty face.

I think we’re meant to compare Luke’s overbearing parenting style to Christopher’s, who has decided parenting means flashing money and offering ski trips to Rory’s friends. The nouveau riche and their creme brulee.

Meanwhile, Sookie is tempted by another man’s vegetables. I’m not really digging this plot development either. And Kirk contemplates breaking up with Lulu. Has spring arrived early?

But what about Christopher and Lorelai? They go to a Yale parent’s day together, go to an astronomy lecture together, and are going to Paris together. Going steady, indeed. Not to spoil the creme brulee, but you can see what’s coming next even from this side of the Atlantic: Christopher and Lorelai tie the knot in Paris. Luke flips out and decides to win Lorelai back, or just turns sulkly and moves to Montana.

Season finale, I want you already. I miss the Lorelai of old (the Lore of Yore) and Rory’s getting boring. All those words rhyme – this is not a good thing.
