Technorati: State of the Blogosphere

November 6th, 2006

TechnologyPretty cool link here at Technorati regarding the growth of blogging in general.

Some tidbits I found interesting: 57 million blogs are being tracked. 100 thousand blogs are estimated to be created every day. That’s a crap load of blogs.

Splogs are a big problem but Technorati claims they have been active at identifying them and keeping them out of their index.

They have a neat “Authority Group” breakdown based on the number of blogs linking in. I’m in the bottom of the Middle Authority Group (10-99 blogs linking in the last 6 months) with 32 blogs linking. I’ll call that a success as this blog has been around since January of this year, and only really started taking it seriously around August.

I’m left with the feeling that although blogging is huge it’s maturing as the blog creation rate seems to be slowing down a bit. Also, I’m curious about blogs being abandoned. Who knows if I’ll be able to continue on my current pace in the years to come.
