Battlestar Galactica: Exodus, Part 2
October 21st, 2006
Season 3, Episode 4

The payoff of a huge space battle after the first three episodes finally came to pass. Adama’s insane rescue plan leads to an all-out battle with four Cylon base stars and the burnt-out shell of the Pegasus ramming directly into one. It was a bit predictable that Lee would come back to give the old man another lease on life, but still, the pull-back away from the surrounded, doomed Galactica and the Pegasus flying over with cannons-blazing was amazing… I eat this stuff up.
Another great moment was the unbelievable sight of the Galactica hurtling down through the atmosphere towards the human city, launching planes, and jumping away.
The other events are all little details, but the evacuation of New Caprica is a success. Baltar has a lot of soul-searching to do. The cylon-human hybrid baby Hera is taken away by Number 3. Starbuck finds out her daughter wasn’t hers after all. What a mind screw, but I’m glad there will be just one hybrid baby to deal with.
Most depressing is how Tigh had to kill Ellen because of her collusion with the Cylons. His emotional weariness, walking away from the impromptu celebration shows how even in war’s victory there are unavoidable and unbearable losses.
At show’s end, Adama finally gets a haircut and shaves off the gnarly mustache. I hope Lee will take this as a hint to go on a diet in the next episode.
