Wal-Mart PR Firm Apologizes for Flog

October 17th, 2006

TechnologyHere’s a public apology from the Wal-Mart PR Firm admitting that the Walmarting Across America blog ideally should have been disclosed as a Wal-Mart backed project from the beginning. I support this move towards disclosure.

It’s a bit awkward because if Wal-Mart had been honest about the people behind the blog from the beginning, they might have gotten much further with the project, which actually could have been interesting.

Here are some more opinions on the subject: twopointouch (slightly negative), Scott Karp (about corporate desire to control everything), and an interesting post about this situation’s effect on the blogosphere (when corporations want to apolgize, they contact Robert Scoble?!).

Hmm. Thanks for the link. I thought my post was a lot more sympathetic to Edelman than most others, though.

Ian… I guess I should check out some of the even more negative articles! Good post on your part, though. I’ll update the language in my post now that I’ve re-read yours.
