Steve Jobs Disses Zune

October 16th, 2006

Pretty funny article here at Apple Insider where Steve Jobs comments on the Zune. He says the file transfer ability is too slow, and instead of waiting for your songs to transfer wirelessly to your friend’s Zune, you might as well just stick your headphones in her ear.

According to Jobs, “By the time you’ve gone through all that, the girl’s got up and left! You’re much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you’re connected with about two feet of headphone cable.”

He has another funny comment regarding the iPod losing its popularity (since it’s so common): “That’s like saying you don’t want to kiss your lover’s lips because everyone has lips,” he said. “It doesn’t make any sense.”

Note the common theme of both these comments, equating the iPod with romantic attraction. Your “friend” that you want to transfer files to is a woman. I’m sure it’s intentional and an attempt to remind people that their attraction to their iPod transcends technology and enters the realm of the cliche: techno-lust. Jobs is a master at creating products that are so desirable it can at times, defy common sense. We just want the stuff he puts out.

I think I’ll stick my iPod earphones in my wife’s ear and see what she thinks.
