Google Buys YouTube: Last YouTube Post For A While

October 9th, 2006

GoogleSo it’s a done deal. $1.65 billion. Now everyone can relax, and start working on the next big thing.

Web 2.0 baby!

Meanwhile, Mark Cuban has some interesting thoughts about the copyright violation issue. He’s ready to start his own company and start uploading infringing content. Funny read.

Some additional thoughts:

The deal isn’t as risky for Google as first feared, since it was an all stock transaction.

YouTube’s bandwith issues will hopefully be resolved with Google’s servers behind them.

The copyright issues still remain, but YouTube is working in it with licensing deals, some of which were announced on Monday.

The tech blog world is going bats on this one. Some are still skeptical. Some fear Bubble 2.0. Some think the price was ridiculous. Scoble wonders what Microsoft would have done with YouTube.

Lastly, I’m a bit sad to read that over the weekend YouTube moved from San Mateo to new offices in San Bruno. No more Amici’s pizza. How could they? Is this what sudden success does to people? Think about the rats!
