Google and YouTube?

Google TechCrunch claims Google is in talks to buy YouTube for $1.5 billion. Sheez. Of course, it’s prefaced with the phrase “completely unsubstantiated” meaning who knows.

I’ll agree with ZDNet in the thought that one quick and easy way to monetize YouTube would be with Google Adsense. And food for thought, here’s another good comparison of YouTube and Google Video’s popularity, leading one to think that although Google Video is a good attempt at what YouTube is doing, maybe it’s easier to just buy the thing. Jason Calacanis thinks it’s a great idea.

So someone’s going to be eating a lot of Amici’s pizza if this thing goes through. And Mark Cuban will have to go on record as thinking Google is run by morons.

What's funny about the Cuban angle though is that he sold an inferior product (traffic and content-wise) for 3x the price of YouTube...so I guess he gets the last laugh regardless. But can you imagine what YouTube would go for at 1999 valuations?

True... Interesting idea to imagine 1999. YouTube would have gone public and bought Disney or something.
