iPhoto and Google Maps

October 4th, 2006

Pretty interesting find by some iPhoto detectives. Apparently, in every photo imported into iPhoto, there is some latitude and longitude information. With some hacking, someone was able to get the info pane to show a button and use the coordinates to take you to the location in Google Maps.

This obviously can come in handy if you forget where you took a photograph, or want to give directions to that cool restaurant you attended a birthday party. It might also be slightly embarrassing to realize you haven’t gone on a vacation in a while.

While cool, I think this is really blowing it out of proportion to think this is a result of Google’s Eric Schmidt on Apple’s board. It’s just a link from iPhoto to the internet.
