Paris Hilton the Link Magnet
September 18th, 2006
A bit of irony in this one, as this blog’s entry on Paris Hilton got me to click on the link, read the article, and now comment on it myself. The basic crux of it is that she’s great at getting attention, and once she has attention she is shameless about advertising products. Tied into this is the idea that even a bad publicity is not damaging if it builds awareness.
There’s humor in a celebrity train wreck like bad publicity in the form of Mel Gibson, but it seems a sly opportunist would somehow turn it into a positive. I think a big part of it is a sense of humor and maintaining the Pee-Wee Herman type attitude “I meant to do that.”
I think it’s utterly amazing that Paris could emerge unscathed through all the night-vision-home-movies and either she’s completely vapid or some sort of marketing genius. Seeing how I’m presently wasting time commenting on her, in a shameless attempt to promote this blog, I’m afraid it’s the latter.
[...] 1. Paris Hilton the Link Magnet. I guess I was asking for it when I posted a link to an article calling Paris Hilton the ultimate website. In the past week or so that it’s been on my blog, this post about Paris Hilton has garnered more hits than any other post. [...]
[...] For the past two weeks, I’ve been posting more regularly in a shameless attempt to get more traffic to this blog and it’s worked out well. I was admittedly rather annoyed that my Paris Hilton entries were getting so much attention, so I decided to challenge myself and blow them off my traffic logs with Apple = Cat, PC = Dog. Well, it worked, but now I’m wondering if I’ll ever come up with something better. Maybe my best days are behind me. So my new goal is to write three posts a day. The only way I’m going to accomplish this is to stick to a regular schedule for some posts, so here’s what I’m toying with: [...]
[...] Technorati ranks this blog as 263,547, far higher than last I checked. According to Alexa, today Webomatica crossed over the 100,000 mark to 74,973. Webomatica.com has never been on the chart before (nothing under 100,000 is charted) so I was surprised to see that. If true, it’s all the fault of Paris Hilton, Apple Computer, and Battlestar Galactica. At least I can add two more semi-respectable topics to that embarassing list… So feeling pretty lucky, I went on over to Pingoat and entered the Webomatica blog URL into the blog worth evaluator. The result: [...]
[...] One thing that’s amusing about running a website is that you can see phrases people are searching for before they visit your site. One bane of my existence is Paris Hilton. I wrote a short post about her a while back and still get hits on it via people searching for her, even though this blog is not about Paris Hilton and I have all kinds of content I’d rather see people reading. It kind of pisses me off. [...]
