Apple’s TubePort?

September 12th, 2006

AppleThis is what I get for staying up relatively late updating Bottle Cap-O-Rama… a new post on tuaw.com claims to know the line-up for tomorrow’s Apple “Showtime” event:

New iTunes 7.0, Movie Store, featuring movies from Disney and Pixar, new iPod Nanos, new iPods with widescreen, virtual touchwheel, and Bluetooth.

The kicker: some technology called “TubePort” which consists of two “dongles,” one that attaches to your Mac and the other to your TV, allowing streaming from the former to the latter. The movie doesn’t sound like it resides on your computer, negating the need for a download.

First off, the name TubePort sounds really dumb. Second, I’m not exactly sure if the speed of USB is fast enough for this application. However, everything else makes sense so I’m leaning towards this being the real deal.

But of course, I pray the pricing isn’t correct: $9.99 for an iPod format, and $14.99 for a movie to be streamed. That’s too high, cool technology or not. I’ll stick with my Netflix subscription if that’s the case.

Anyhow, all will be revealed tomorrow. This is better than Christmas.
