Fall TV: Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls

September 8th, 2006

Battlestar GalacticaAt this point there are only two television programs I watch with any regularity, Battlestar Galactica and Gilmore Girls. The former is entering its third season, and the season finale was so insane and story-altering that I must have watched it three times before I really could get a handle on what happened. So it’s been a long summer waiting, and now Sci-Fi Channel is posting “webisodes” online to get me prepped for the next season.

This in my opinion is a pretty brilliant strategy. A full episode is just too long to watch online, so these little chunks of about a minute or so are easily digestible. I’ll also add that I don’t get cable, so my source of episodes for the past several months has been iTunes downloads. Yes, I am one of the people who pays to download a TV show. The way I figure it, it’s cheaper than singing up for cable and I get to watch said video repeatedly on the computer, a TV, or an iPod.

Gilmore GirlsGilmore Girls is going into what is likely its last season on a new network, “CW” which is a merging of WB and UPN. One sad situation is that the show’s founder Amy Sherman Palladino has left the program. So I’m a bit worried about the quality of the show from here on out. I just hope whoever takes over the show realizes that the story lines are pretty much pointing in one direction, so please continue the arc, and keep the strong characters consistent. My ultimate hope for the conclusion of the show is for Lorelai and Luke to get married while Rory moves to Europe by herself to pursue some fabulous career.
