iPod Withdrawl
So late last week, I did a simple thing, which was forget my iPod Video at work. Then the next day, I forgot my earphones at home, and as a result I went three days without my iPod during my daily commute. Generally, I listen to it both to and from work via Muni and CalTrain, listening to music or podcasts.
The first day I was understandably pissed, bored, and I bought a magazine and a bag of chips to console my jittery brain. The second day however, the feelings of addiction left and I found myself reverting back to my pre-iPod ways, namely reading whatever free newspaper I can dig up at the station (San Mateo Journal, SF Weekly) or doing a crossword puzzle. After the third day, I was used to the iPod-less world and didn’t really miss my doses of TWiT and Diggnation.
So it’s a bit odd how obsessed I was over the iPod, and now I think I may give it a rest. Yes, I still find it extremely useful (and not to mention efficient) to listen to music or news programs during the commute, but must it be every day without fail? I mean, if I neglect to sync up every evening, the world won’t end.
Maybe it’s the passing of my work deadline, where I practically stared at web pages for hours on end, or our trip to the library where I felt actual paper pages again, that I’m thinking a bit of alternation between the electronic and the organic, “dead tree” world wouldn’t hurt any.
And yes, the irony that I’m typing this in the form of a blog post isn’t lost on me, either.
