MacBook Firmware Update: No More Moo?

August 17th, 2006

AppleLooks like Apple just released a firmware update for the MacBook. It definitely adjusts the fan behavior. It requires a restart and a brief period of time where the fan is revved up full blast, then it’s all done.

What seems to happen afterwards is the fan is on at a very low speed all the time now, whenever the MacBook is on. I guess this is the trade off. I use CoreDuoTemp for monitoring, and right now it’s reporting 52 degrees as I type this. Not bad. I’ll take a very quiet fan over a quiet moo any day.

Disclosure: I own a tiny amount of Apple stock.
