Our new apartment is within walking distance to the San Mateo movie theaters, so we decided to check out The Devil Wears Prada, a fashion farce based on a book. Anne Hathaway plays Amanda Andrea, a recent college grad who becomes assistant to Meryl Streep’s fashion journalist nightmare boss from hell. The end result is an enjoyable mish-mash of Office Space, The Princess Diaries, and Top Model. Meryl Streep can be quite funny playing haughty and bored. A great contrast with her funny role in Prime.
Anne Hathaway looks perfect is many scenes, yet seems to be constantly mugging and over-reaching during others. I’m thinking she doesn’t yet have the chops just yet to carry a film (hence thank the Devil for Streep). Anyhow, The Devil Wears Prada will make a fine rental, and guys can watch it too.
