Dialup Sucks

August 1st, 2006

TechnologyToday the DSL at our new joint finally turned on. I have to say, the past three days using dialup and a 56K modem sucked. Not to mention, it ties up your phone line.

Pretty much my whole daily routine was hampered. I couldn’t get any of my podcasts downloaded in a reasonable amount of time, so I just gave up. Second, someone sent me an email with several photographs attached that plugged up my account. The numbers are pretty telling; once you’re used to broadband and you go back to a modem, everything literally takes 5 to 10 times longer to do. Lastly, since we normally have a wireless router set up, I couldn’t use the MacBook to get on the internet since it doesn’t have a built in modem.

Near the end of my modem experience I was seriously thinking of stealing wireless access from a neighbor or signing up for cable. Luckilly, today is the end of the unplanned experiment.
